Miscanthus
Maiden Grass

Maiden Grass is a well-behaved, clump forming grass for our Northwest climate, which does not spread by way of roots/runners. It is available in a number of varieties, some slender leaved, some bold, some dwarf and suitable for containers and some that make a statement in the garden at 6'-7' tall. Plant large growers as a specimen in the mixed border or as a backdrop for perennials and low growing shrubs. Utilize small varieties in containers and mixed plantings to add structure and texture. Maiden Grass develops attractive tassels of silver, pink or bronze in late summer that usually last into winter. Foliage turns tan to papery brown in winter, but holds its shape well and looks nice paired with dark evergreens. Cut Maiden Grass back in late winter before new growth starts.
